The New Zealand Studies Network (UK and Ireland) proudly presents a poetry reading by Brian Turner, Friday 17th June 6pm at Birkbeck, University of London, Main Building, Malet St, Room 151 (entrance on Torrington Square).
Brian Turner <http://www.victoria.ac.nz/vup/authorinfo/bturner.aspx> is one of New Zealand’s leading poets. His first collection, Ladders of Rain (1978), won the Commonwealth Poetry Prize, and his sixth, Beyond (1992), the New Zealand Book Award for Poetry. His most recent, Just This, won the 2010 New Zealand Post Book Award for Poetry. He was New Zealand Poet Laureate 2003-2005. His acclaimed work in other genres includes co-authorship of the autobiographies of All Black stars Josh Kronfeld and Anton Oliver, a biography of Colin Meads, significant contributions to Timeless Land and The Art of Grahame Sydney, and Into the Wider World: A Back Country Miscellany.
Brian will read from All that blue can be (1989), Taking Off (2001) –both shortlisted for the NZ Book Awards for Poetry -- and the award-winning, Just This (2009). He will also read from Inside Outside, forthcoming in July/August.
