Escalator Literature Writing Prize

Writers’ Centre Norwich will launch this year’s writing prize in autumn 2010.

Prize winners will enjoy a year-long programme of support with their writing; mentoring from established poets; a summer school residential based at the UEA and support in making an Arts Council England Grants for the Arts bid.

The prize is open to poets yet to publish a first collection, and for the first time the Escalator Literature prize will be open to applicants from all parts of England.

Troubadour International Poetry Prize

 The Fourth Annual Troubadour International Poetry Prize, judged this year by Gwyneth Lewis & Maurice Riordan, is now welcoming submissions.

 Prizes: 1st £1000, 2nd £500, 3rd £250, 20 prizes of £20 each, plus a Spring 2011 coffee-house poetry season ticket and a prizewinners’ coffee-house poetry reading with Gwyneth Lewis & Maurice Riordan on Monday 29 November 2010 for all prize-winning poets.

National Poetry Competition

The 2010 National Poetry Competition is now open for entries.The first poem you submit costs £6.00. Subsequent entries in the same submission cost £3.00 per poem.

First Prize: £5,000

Second Prize: £2,000

Third Prize: £1,000

Seven Commendations: £100

The New Writer Prose and Poetry Prizes

One of the major, international competitions for contemporary fiction and poetry, essays and articles, the annual New Writer prose and poetry prizes provide an opportunity to bring your work to a wider audience.  

What The New Writer is looking for is bold, incisive material in any genre just as long as it reflects writing today. Up to twenty prizes will be presented as well as publication for the prize-winning writers in The New Writer 'Special Collection'.

Ravenglass Poetry Competition

The Ravenglass Poetry Competition from Ravenglass Poetry Press is open for submissions. The competition will be judged by poet and novelist John Burnside.

1st Prize: 30-50 page publication of collection.

2nd Prize: publication in anthology.

Writers’ & Artists’ Yearbook Writing Competition 2011

The Writers’ & Artists’ Yearbook 2011 short story competition is open for submissions from published and aspiring writers alike. Stories must be no more than 2,000, on the theme of ‘compulsion’.

The winner will receive a cash prize of £500, a place on an Arvon Foundation residential writing course of his or her choice, and publication of the winning story on the Writers’ & Artists’ Yearbook website

Lightship International Literary Competitions Launch

Lightship Publishing Ltd, an independent publisher based in Kingston-upon-Hull, has announced the launch of its web-based international Short Story, Poetry and Flash Fiction competitions.

Lightship aims to run one of the premier literary competitions in the world, with prizes of £1,000, honorary patrons such as Christopher Reid, Hilary Mantel, Sir Andrew Motion and Lindsay Clarke, and distinguished judges such as Toby Litt, Jackie Kay, and Kachi A. Ozumba. The winner of each competition, along with nine runners-up, will be published in the Lightship anthology to be published by Alma Books in October 2011.
